Benefits of Haploidentical Family Donors

If a sibling donor or a perfectly matched unrelated donor is not available to you, a half-matched family donor for a Parent-To-Child (Haplo) Transplant may be a good alternative. Please discuss with your doctor.

Advantages include:
  • Almost everyone has a donor available.
  • The family donor is immediately available. This means the patient will not have to wait for an HLA- matched unrelated donor to join the donor registry.
  • Because the family donor is immediately available, the transplant process can happen more quickly, before the patient's symptoms worsen
  • The family donor is still available after the transplant if the patient needed additional donor marrow.
